SETH - Transforming
Water Industry Training
Overview & Challenge
The water industry is facing a significant labor shortage, with an aging workforce and a lack of skilled newcomers to fill the gap. This shortage threatens the reliability of water services and public health. Traditional training methods have been unable to meet the evolving needs of the industry, hampered by geographical barriers and the high costs associated with in-person training.
The Texas American Water Works Association (TxAWWA) and PixelForge collaborated on an innovative online training program named SETH. This initiative was designed to address the critical labor shortage in the water industry, particularly in Central Texas, and ensure the continued provision of clean and safe drinking water in Texas.
Solution
SETH was developed as a transformative online training program to address these challenges. The program utilizes a blend of modern technology and traditional production techniques to deliver high-quality, accessible training. PixelForge's approach to the project included:
Utilizing Physical Studio Space: Recognizing that engaging video content is best produced in a controlled environment, PixelForge provided professional studio space for video shoots, ensuring high-quality visual and audio production.
Incorporating Online Collaboration Tools: To overcome geographical barriers and reduce production costs, the project leveraged video conferencing and online collaboration tools. This allowed industry experts from across the state to contribute to the video shoots remotely, enriching the content with their expertise without the need for physical presence.
Turn-Key Video Editing and Branding: PixelForge offered comprehensive post-production services, including video editing and the creation of cohesive branding elements for the program. This ensured a professional and consistent look and feel across all training materials.
The Results
The SETH program has significantly reduced barriers to participation in water industry training, making it accessible to students across Texas regardless of their physical location. This accessibility opens up new socioeconomic opportunities for individuals who might not have been able to pursue a career in the water industry due to geographical or financial constraints.
Moreover, the program is contributing to the sustainability of the water industry by providing a pipeline of skilled workers equipped to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water. This is not only a win for public health but also for environmental sustainability. The project is so significant, it was even featured in local media as part of the KVUE Defender series.
The collaboration between PixelForge and TxAWWA on the SETH project exemplifies how innovative solutions and modern technology can be harnessed to address critical industry challenges. By blending traditional production techniques with online collaboration tools, the project has set a new standard for training in the water industry, ensuring that Texas remains at the forefront of providing essential services to its residents. As the program continues to grow, it promises to make a meaningful impact on the industry and the communities it serves, ensuring a future where access to clean and safe drinking water is guaranteed for all Texans.
